Fieldworks (pre-fab)- Housing the Homeless
Berkeley, 2019
In Berkeley alone, there are almost 1,300 people now living on the streets.
Trachtenberg Architects partnered with Panoramic Interests, an innovator in pre-fabricated housing, to develop the Fieldworks housing prototype. This project seeks to provide a solution to housing the homeless with a modular building system which can be rapidly deployed in urban areas. The basic module is fabricated in Germany and built of steel for durability and low maintenance. Modules can be arranged as needed to fit any given site and can be stacked up to three stories high. The configuration shown on this page is organized around a shared commons and includes bathrooms on each level and a ground floor common kitchen/dining/laundry.
The project is currently in the Planning approvals process.
