Akonadi Foundation

Oakland, 2006

We designed this new home for the Akonadi Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to racial justice and youth organizing, on the top floor of the Historic Central Building – a 14-story building for which Trachtenberg Architects was responsible for full seismic, ADA and common areas upgrades.

In our choice of detailing and palette, the project reinterprets the language of the existing historic building.  The 2,900 sq ft space provides an elegant and well-functioning office suite for half a dozen people and a large conference space for board meetings. Original works of fine art and custom designed furniture provide the finishing touches to the welcoming, stylish environment.
